Am I Likely To Be Affected By Panic Disorder?

When a person jogging through the forest encounters a venomous snake or some other dangerous animal, his/her normal move would be to panic and to run away from the beast as fast as possible.

If the same feelings of fear and horror come to surface without any real reasons and when they occur in a perfectly safe environment (while jogging on the street or watching a movie at the local cinema) you do not have to be an expert to conclude that something is wrong with your health. Witnessing a few of such episodes in relatively short time frame (a few weeks or months) might be an indication that the person suffers from panic disorder.

At the very early stages the patients become very frightened and baffled. The physical symptoms of panic disorder that can include palpitations, nausea, shortness of breath, dizziness, excessive sweating, jelly legs etc. make the patient to believe that something entirely different is going on inside their bodies. The main reasons for this are that warm weather accelerates pulse, causes dizziness and dehydration. Also, during these days people are more likely to spend their time outdoors and therefore have a much higher prospect of running into unacquainted and dreadful situations and surroundings.

Although the real causes of panic disorder are unknown, some researches have shown that some kinds of people are more likely to suffer of this condition than the rest. This group includes people who are shy by nature and who tend is to be worried and over concerned about every single problem in their lives. They constantly analize their own abilities and are never sure whether they are good enough to complete their goals and responsibilities. The signs of their instability and fears are usually visible from their early childhood (blushing, palm sweating, palpitations, not feeling comfortable in front of older, unknown people or when confronted by authorities.) Those children spend a lot of time daydreaming and imagining things and show no agonistic spirit and behavior. During their sleep they can also experience dreadful dreams and have accidents with bed wetting. Their perception of other individuals is somewhat naive because they cannot observe the hidden intentions of mean people. Even after repetitive and numerous disappointments they do not change their act.

It is important to state that panic disorder is very common mental health problem in our society. Although individuals who show some of the previously mentioned symptoms in their childhood have a higher chance of being affected by panic disorder in their adulthood, not everyone will. On the contrary, some very confident people who are energetic and have no apparent obstacles in their lives can be struck by this condition without any warnings or a valid explanation.
