Barter And Second-hand Articles Fair In Naples

By: Michele De Capitani

Another problem, which is becoming more and more relevant in these days, is the financial one, which could sorely try big and little savers. A little step towards the solution of these problems, or at least an important sign that this question is being taken into consideration, and a demonstration that things can and need to be changed thanks to the little contribution of every person, and starting from everyday actions, are given by the Barter and Second-Hand Articles Fair, an event organised by the association Bidonville which will celebrate its 25th edition in Naples (a city that is sorely afflicted by the problem of waste), from the 29th to the 30th November.rnrnThe association Bidonville acts following the philosophy of the reuse, opposing to the predominant culture of replacement: while the latter is linked to the idea of using and consuming objects only for short periods of time, of changing clothes following the sudden changes in fashion, and of buying throwaway items, the reuse culture tries to change this way of thinking making people understand the importance of renovation instead of replacement, of conservation instead of taking something new, of reusing instead of throwing away. This philosophy originates from a specific cultural choice, based on the idea that things lasting only for one season cannot be as valuable as the ones that last for a long period, if not forever, but if we consider the problems that characterise our society, this cultural choice turns out to be also a moral and civil duty that every citizens should have: a massive reuse, indeed, would have positive consequences such as an easier waste disposal on one hand and money sparing on the other hand.rnrnThis way of thinking characterises also the Barter and Second-hand Articles Fair, a 28,000 m² exhibitory space that hosts around 700 exhibitors and that has already attracted, during the previous editions, over 1,000,000 visitors. Among the exhibitors that take part in the fair there are various firms that consider environmental problems as very important, and their products are, for example, eco-compatible or linked to the idea of ethic consumption., but in many stalls you can find also collectors’ objects, antiques, modern antiques and handicrafts, which are all used or recycled items: the fair is the biggest collection of used items in Italy. One peculiarity of this event is given by the fact that all private citizens can buy their own exhibitory space (starting from 120 euro), where they can sell any kind of used items: books, records, memorabilia etc., which have probably been found in cellars or attics, and which, instead of being thrown away, are used a second time for the happiness of visitors, who are always looking for curious, out-of-the-ordinary and antique objects.rnrnThe fair hosts also other events connected to the idea of recycling, such as free workshops were children have the possibility to build new toys and other objects reusing other things, a charity auction during which objects belonging to celebrities are sold, expositions of works by the greatest artists and artisans of Recycling and other music, literature and art events.rnrnNaples is a beautiful city, but it is well-known not only for its art, culture and history, but also for its problems. One of these is the waste disposal, which afflicts sorely Naples, but it is also a world problem. It is not a case that just this city hosts the Barter and Used Articles Fair. Plan a trip to Naples in this period, to admire the wonderful sights of the city, but also to visit this fair and understand how to change things. Book now a cheap hotel in Naples.rnrnDate: 29th -30th August 2008 rnLocation: Fiera di Napoli, Mostra d’Oltremare, Naples, Italy
