Discount Cards

By: Sebastian Grenier

Discount gas cards are similar to normal gas cards but instead of getting cash back or a rebate, you get a discount off the regular price of gasoline. So how is this different from a gas card? What benefits can a discount card offer you? Remember, the 5 to10 cents you save per gallon can add up to thousands of dollars at the end of the year. If you need to drive to work, or drive for work or simply cannot commute, you might want to consider the different gas saving options.

Most discount cards offer 10-20 percent discount off the purchase price of gasoline when you purchase it. This is a great way to save if you don’t want to have or apply for another credit card. However, you have to be careful when reading then fine print. Sometimes you really are applying for a credit card and the discounts come as exclusive membership promos. This can be a good thing, but you have to check out the credit card you are applying for first. Remember, the terms and conditions are the fine print for the credit card. Check it out first before signing your name.

Discount cards are often available from clubs, wholesale retailers or clubs. Most wholesale clubs like Costco offer a gas discount card if you buy at their stores. So, if you do most of your shopping there, you can easily benefit not only from saving on gas but on other expenses as well. It’s a good investment that you can easily use. Most memberships cost $40-50 dollars but if you think of the savings that you will have in the long run, this isn’t such a huge expense. Other big stores may also offer gas discount cards without a membership fee so be sure to inquire at the one nearest to you.

Another way to avail of gas discounts is to check your current credit card. Some credit cards that aren’t specifically made for gas rebates offer gas and auto discounts. Other credit cards may offer extra discounts if you sign up for a monthly program. For a small fee, you can avail of a lot of discounts not only with gas but with other purchases as well. Call up your provider now and ask about what discounts may be available to you.

Becoming a smart consumer who knows your options as well as a savvy spender can do wonders for your wallet. You can save a lot and get a lot of freebies! This is one way that you can save hundreds, if not thousands of dollars during these expensive times.
