If you are travelling overseas, it is of course recommended that you select a budget airline for your travels. There will always be seats available on the premium airlines, and never on the economy ones. This is just the way air travel is. My advice is to plan your flight months in advance in order to take advantage of the cheaper airfares. This way you won’t have to play ‘catch-up’ with Airport tax. Also, most airlines offer holiday and travel packages in one; which greatly cut down on associated costs. Another way (but far more random) is to see which flights are cheapest at the moment, and plan your holiday around these locations. Be flexible and plan ahead. Flying is always a tricky business, but it doesn’t have to be. Avoid the peak seasons if you can. They usually start in July and end in August. Vacationing during the off-peak times guarantees you a cheaper rate and a far less crowded experience. Try planning your vacation in April through to September. What if your family vacation can be a more relaxed and thoughtful affair? Theatres, museums’ and art galleries may be boring for the kids, but a young couple would find the atmosphere very soothing and peaceful, which is a pleasant change from partying all day and night. One of the mistakes many vacationers make is to eat out all the time. Doing so away from a holiday is a poor way to save money, and imagine how much you will waste on a full course meal every night for the whole family. Avoid this possible pitfall and shop at the local convenience stores, so you can prepare food in your room. This is also the best way to experience the local cuisines, wherever you may be in the world. Research is the key here. No one likes to willingly advertise that they have the cheapest fares or the lowest rates. Those who do, have other expenses tied down with them, to balance out the supposedly super lows costs that they promote. Plan a budget. Stick to it and you will be amazed at how far this gets you in terms of your expenses. Also, consider renting a car instead of using expensive taxis to transport you everywhere. There are countless car rental outlets throughout the world; and renting a cheap auto for the week is surprisingly inexpensive. Being finicky about your holiday is the best way to get results. However, try not to sacrifice fun at the cost of cutting corners. It’s a vacation, and stressing about your money disappearing down a black hole will take all the enjoyment out of it.
