Stuff To Do In Surrey

By: Cindy Norgte

Background

Surrey is divided into 11 boroughs and districts, including Elmbridge, Ewell, Guildford, Mole Valley, Reigate and Banstead, Runnymede, Spelthorne, Surrey Heath, Tandridge, Waverley and Woking. Most of the county is made up of gorgeous countryside, woods and there are several pleasant market towns and mills to enjoy.

There are plenty of reasons to look up Surrey, but we've compiled some of the best and put them into the tourism guide below. Whether you are interested in rambling, bike riding, exploring heritage sites or even simply shopping, we're sure that you will find something to interest you.

Surrey is easily reached by road and train from the middle of London and it’s also within simple reach of numerous other British cities.

Beautiful Surroundings

Most of Surrey is in the green-belt and it’s the most wooded county in the UK. There are many commons and access lands, in addition to a sizable network of foot paths and bridleways, including the North Downs Way - a stunning long-distance path. For this reason, Surrey offers some fantastic rural leisure activities, including bike riding, walking and riding.

Much of the land in the county is flat although the highest point in Surrey is Leith Hill, which is near Dorking and stands at an unforgettable 294m above sea level.

Fun For the Family

If you're planning a day trip for the entire family, visit Chessington World of Adventures or Thorpe Park. These lively theme parks have some great rides, so you're guaranteed to have a great time there. On the other hand, there is the Rural Life Centre at Tilford, which offers a children's playground and Sunday railway for younger children, or even Farnham’s bustling Birdworld and Underwater World, which gives you the chance to see some beautiful animals.

For something a little more educational, you'll be pleased to know that Surrey has over forty museums. Some of our favourites are the Army Medical Services Museum, Clandon Park, The Lightbox and the Guildford Museum.

Shopping

If you are planning to shop in Surrey, you'll find that Guildford has everything you need & more. As well as many specialist stores, you'll also find famous brands such as House of Fraser, Debenhams, Boots, Marks & Spencer & W.H. Smith here. In addition to this, the town also boasts a top street market on Fridays & Saturdays.

For a more old-fashioned shopping experience, go to Farnham. This gorgeous town is still really old-fashioned with some fabulous specialist stores, which are situated just beneath Farnham Castle.

More Information?

We've reached the end of our guide to tourism in Surrey, but we hope you have found it informative. If you require any further info about this pretty county, just get in touch with your nearest tourist office and they will be happy to help you.
