Suggested Pieces For The Foot Of Your Bed

By:

Are you fortunate to have a bedroom sizeable enough to place a piece of furniture at the end of your bed? Whether for decorative or functional purposes, there are plenty of ways to make use this space. If you want, this space can be used to display a choice piece from a flea market, or you can just add your own. It all depends on the space you have and what you want to use it for. Here are some things you might want to consider for placing at the foot of your bed.

Storage Bench – Whether you choose a wooden bench or an upholstered one, a storage bench is a wonderful place to put bedding, pillows, and extra linens. It's a great place to sit to put on shoes and socks and also a handy place to put your comforter at night.

Low Cabinet or Trunk – I recommend low and long pieces for this one, although I have seen a few tall cabinets that work great as well. The drawers are great for linen storage, books, craft supplies, and CD's or DVD's that you might use in your bedroom. A trunk can hold pillows and blankets. Get wooden pieces if you can, since these add balance to the interiors of your bedroom.

Chairs – If you regularly read in your bedroom, a small armchair or two at the end of the bed will be perfect. With an ottoman and small reading lamp, you'll have a cozy, private reading nook.

Wicker or Iron Seating – Like I said earlier, the foot of the bed provides you with an ideal location for a unique piece of furniture. Iron and wicker look wonderful in casual interiors or rooms with a vintage look. You can add plaid or even floral cushions to soften the effect if you want.

TV Cabinet – The latest trend in bedroom furniture is a TV cabinet that goes up and down at a touch of a button. Think about it; you’ll have a bench or cabinet during the day and an entertainment center at night! This option is quite expensive, though, so be prepared to shell out a bit more for this.

Table – A small, round or oval table will work great here. Purchase or make a floor-length tablecloth that coordinates with the decor of your room. You can even add a small side chair if you have the space for it. A library table or a pedestal can be used for your CDs, DVDs, books, picture frames, or even a small TV or boombox. The table should not be more than 8" taller than the top of your mattress.

Loveseat – A small loveseat is great at the end of a king or queen-sized bed. Add a nice floor lamp to provide some soft light, decorate the loveseat with some cushions and an optional blanket, and you’re ready to go!

Writing Desk – With a small desk at the foot of your bed, you'll be able to use and enjoy your bedroom during the day. You can read your mail, write a letter, use your computer or make a phone call in the comfort of your bedroom.

These are just a few of the pieces that you can use to add that extra touch to your bedroom. With a little bit of creativity, you can find some more ideas to put at the end of your bed.
