He posed for Playgirl after his girlfriend sent a photo of him to the magazine, and moved into the adult film industry as a means to support himself. He first appeared in a porn film called Snap. It was then that he started using his first and middle name professionally in the adult film world. He ran into several problems while he was using his last name; his grandmothers name was Rose, and in the phone book was listed as R. Hyatt, and she was pestered by all hours of the night by people who had seen him in Playgirl. His father told him that if he wanted to be a star in the porn industry, that was fine, but that if Ron Jeremy ever used the family name again, his father would kill him!

Ron Jeremy got his nickname from Bill Margold while the movie Olympic Fever was being shot in 1979. He had flown in from New York to California wearing a t shirt and shorts, expecting warm weather. However, the weather had become blizzard like, and by the time that Ron Jeremy arrived on the set of the movie, he had close to hypothermia. He immediately was given a hot shower, and his skin had turned bright pink, with the hairs on his body standing up on end, just like a hedgehog.

One of the most amazing facts about Ron Jeremy is that he is in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most appearances in adult films. He lists more than 1900 adult films to his credit that he acted in, and another 275 that he directed. Ron Jeremy also has been inducted into the Adult Video News Hall of Fame and the XRCO Hall of Fame.
