The New Forest remains relatively unchanged since 1079 when William the Conqueror claimed the area as his new hunting ground. The introduction of new laws created protection and management for the forest, many of which are still in-place today. With help from the Verderers, Agisters and Commoners who maintain a perfect co-ordination with each other, the forest and its wildlife remains protected. Attaining the status of National park in March 2005, the New Forest is noted as an area of national importance for conservation. Its the smallest national park in England, covering more than two hundred square miles. The woodland, grassland, heathland, wetland and coastline make this area unique, offering a great variety of habitats for many of the United Kingdom's endangered, protected and rare animals, birds and plants.

The famous New Forest ponies and other commonable animals such as donkeys, cattle and mules, wander freely throughout the National Park. Living alongside these animals are the truly wild animals, such as deer, reptiles, foxes, badgers and amphibians. Apart from viewing the animals, there are many unique, fascinating and picturesque attractions available to tourists.
