What Makes A Good Thesis?

Most of us have found ourselves at least once in our lifetimes in a situation in which we had to write a thesis and we didn’t know what to begin with. All of us should be able to write an essay or a thesis within a reasonable period of time without considering it a burden.

The word thesis is of Greek origin and it is an intellectual proposition. The academic thesis represents the main idea of one’s research and it is normally the final point of a candidate’s research. A successful paper must propose an arguable point of view which may be contested by other people, it must deal with a specific subject and cover all its aspects, it is focused and concise, it asserts your conclusion in a clear manner, it anticipates and deals with the counter-arguments and finally it avoids vague language and the first person when writing.

The thesis statement normally contains a single statement, being found at the end of the first paragraph and serving as a summary of the argument you will make in the rest of your thesis. A good thesis statement must make a difference between a well-thought and prepared research project and a simple retelling of facts and it must be treated with the proper attention.

However, writing a thesis is a long, difficult task and its importance should not be reduced to the thesis statement. Before starting to write your essay, make an outline of your paper; this outline can contain chapter headings and subheadings, some figure titles and some notes and comments. Once you have solved this first step you can go ahead and make a list of things that must be mentioned and discussed in each chapter; thus you can be sure that you won’t forget to write about something really important. Afterwards, begin writing a paragraph about the first chapter and see how it goes.

If you have decided upon the number of chapters and their headlines and if you have already began writing, pay attention to the style you use. Your text must be clear and concise, but not short, and it must be able to maintain your readers’ attention. Do not make any grammar mistakes and make sure you use a formal language. No one likes to read long and boring paragraphs, written with the only purpose of making the thesis a bit longer. Just because you haven’t graduated the English university it doesn’t mean that you cannot write a professional paper regarding your area of research.

The length of your thesis will vary according to the issue you are debating and according to the number of sources you wish to mention in your work. A strong work is the one that takes a stand and presents your contribution to the discussed issue in a concise manner, focusing on one main idea. The thesis statement will allow you to focus on a certain topic of the paper. Writing a paper should be treated with the proper seriousness but it is not something that we should be scared of. However, if you don’t have the time or the necessary skills to write your own thesis, you don’t need to despair since you can ask a professional writer to do this for you. Of course, you will have to give some extra money but it will be worth it if you want to have a good paper.
